Our new apartment!

Most of our family and friends should know by now that we've moved recently (just across town to Eastlake!). This month, we've been slowly unpacking, enjoying the much easier bike commute, discovering nearby bakeries and happy hour spots, and meeting our neighbors. Simply put, we love our new place! Here's why:

Eastlake is smack dab in between our workplaces, so we have equidistant bike commutes. This means that neither of us can complain that we have a harder commute and try to wriggle out of dish duty. . .

Eastlake is more of slice of a neighborhood than a bona fide neighborhood. It encompasses the thin strip of land west of the I-5 freeway to Lake Union, between the Montlake ship canal and South Lake Union. This means, pretty much everyone has amazing views of Lake Union at sunset.

From our bay window, we can watch bi-planes coming and going, pods of kayakers milling about, and sailboats tacking across the bay -- all just a block away

South Lake Union Park - within easy walking distance, this park was built in 2010, and includes the new MOHAI museum, the Center for Wooden Boats, a fountains and a reflection pool, and a beach. It's a great use of land that desperately needed a facelift, and now it's also Amazon.com's front yard. 


The Howe Street Stairs - quite a workout, the 272 stairs between 10th Ave E and Lakeview Blvd are one of Seattle's most formidable ascents. From Eastlake Ave, it's double the trouble. We hiked the hill at sunset, and stopped along several landings to appreciate the view of the Space Needle and downtown. . . and acclimatize to the altitude. We also explored the steep ravine and community gardens off of Blaine Street, which we affectionately dubbed "Lover's Ledge." 

Our place is also in a prime location where we can take the bus to church or work or really anywhere in Seattle, which is critical for our quest to be car-free one day. . .
