Kim & Jared's Wedding + Spring in Seattle!

We have many favorite odes to springtime (ee cumming's thank you god for most this amazing, Edna St Vincent Millay's Spring, Spring and All by William Carlos Williams, and Gerard Manley Hopkins's Spring), but these are nothing compared to the white and purple narcissus bursting out on our sidewalk. A few days ago, Shaun and I walked up the Howe Street Stairs to the Streissguth Gardens, where spring things are really taking off.

In other news, we just came back from another dear friend's wedding. Kim went and got herself hitched to Jared, one incredibly lucky guy. I should know - I've known Kim since kindergarten! We really enjoyed a weekend full of visiting family, old friends, and dancing salsa to the Rolling Stones.






Bonus! 

A couple weeks ago, Shaun hammed it up at the Dream Big Breakfast fundraiser for his work, UDYC, representing his Zine Project Seattle with his usual aplomb. He was the emcee, along with adorable third-grader Mohammed. Shaun's been making good use of that necktie, lately.

Mt Rainier Backpacking Trip & Bainbridge Island Bike Trip

View from Bainbridge Ferry Shaun and I have been trying to enjoy the last bit of summer weather before we go into hibernation for the winter. It always seems like winter comes close on the heels of autumn, so I'm already bracing myself for the shock of cold and rain.  Shaun has a 3-week break between summer and autumn quarter, so we've been taking advantage of it by going on a 1 night backpacking trip to Mt Rainier last weekend, and a short bike trip around Bainbridge Island this weekend. We drove to the Longmire entrance near Paradise, in the southwest corner of the park. I'd never been to Mt Rainier before, and it had been years since Shaun's last trip. Now that I'm a "seasoned professional," I'd like to share the baby gear and other tips and tricks that I've learned during my seven-month-long reign as Queen Mom. :-) Much of the advice I learned from my family and friends and others who have been a tremendous help. When I was pregnant, I spent a lot of time researching and asking for advice on all the things related to baby gear, etc. Now I'm just writing it all down in hopes that this advice will help other new moms! Europe Trip 2016: Part 2, Paris

by Shaun Day 1 The train dropped us off at the Gare Du Nord , from which we quickly learned how to use the Paris Metro ( may-troh ) to get to our flat in the arrondissement of Montmartre. We set our things down and hiked up an epic set of stairs to the Sacre Coeur, a ivory-colored cathedral keeping watch over the City of Lights. Below the domes and spires of the cathedral crowds from around the world were gathered, as they do nightly, playing music, taking selfies, drinking wine and speaking in French, Italian, Russian, English, Chinese, Somali, etc.... The scene was the love child of The Tower of Babel and It’s a Small World After All. Afterwards, we went to a café and used my survival French to order dinner. The French waiters gave me pointers and seemed to enjoy it. Day 2  Well, if we’d weathered the world’s tenth largest museum the day prior in London, what could hold us back from tackling The Louvre, the world’s second largest?...
